Trombone

136David Grey

David was raised in the peace and quiet of Walbottle, Newcastle, with a love of music pervading generations of his family.  Growing up, his innate ability and keen ear as a performer were nurtured in and out of school, before he started to get involved with some of the hottest, most dedicated players and outfits in the region.

David has since come to love a huge variety of music, with a keen focus on jazz, funk and soul.  Some of his heroes include trombonists Fred Wesley, Rico Rodriguez, J.J. Johnson and Wayne Henderson, and he’s always seeking ways to channel their panache and flair.  This passion and aspiration culminated in him in attaining first class honours in Sage Gateshead’s Jazz, Popular and Commercial Music degree, with the majority of his success found in composition, arranging and performance.

His musical CV is expansive, from his recent involvement with Stein Bier Keller, to bands such as SouLutions, Northern Monkey Brass Band and The Ska-Toons North East.  David also enjoys jazz jams, funk jams, assorted fruit jams and arranging for bands when called upon.

Make no mistake about it—his increasingly favourable reputation precedes him for a reason and his stage presence knows no limits (within reason).
