Martyn took the plunge into the world of the bass guitar at 18, after spending a few years prior engrossed in listening to prominent bass giants such as Stuart Zender of Jamiroquai fame, Jaco Pastorius the jazz/fusion pioneer and Squarepusher, the electronic megalomaniac. From these three names alone you can see the eclectic and varied influences he takes on in his approach to the instrument.
Now, ten years on with a Bachelors Degree with Honours in Jazz, Popular and Commercial music, he is a very active member of the North East music scene: with gigs under his belt in almost every live music venue in the city performing with a variety of local bands playing both originals and covers, and regularly venturing further out to venues covering the entire country. He has experience working as part of a theatre pit band, and his ability to authentically play a wide variety of genres can be heard on numerous recordings from local acts.
Alongside Elliott Martyn locks in as part of the rhythm section of Groove Allstars, delivering excellent tone, keeping tracks fresh and fluid with a tasteful approach.
